Best of John Standefer - Bossa Nova Guitar NEW!
by John Standefer
Release Date: 2024
The bossa nova took me by storm in the mid ‘60s and I’ve never gotten over it. The exotic melodies, unique chord progressions, complex, yet subtle rhythms, all mixed with romance - and even the Portuguese language. It’s intoxicating! The bossa nova is certainly one of the finest forms of music of the 20th century and it still affects American pop and jazz music to this day. In the past I have included a bossa nova or two on many of my solo guitar albums but somehow I never released an entire album exclusively made up of bossa nova arrangements. In this project I have attempted to remedy that with the inclusion of some past recordings, brand new cuts, pop tunes and original pieces in the bossa style. I want to share this warm, beautiful, Brazilian-flavored guitar music with those who appreciate it. Enjoy! Acknowlegements Pat Kirtley - accompaniment guitar on ‘Lullaby’ David Lange - Fender Rhodes piano on One Note Samba Reprise (+JS quartet) Craig Russell - bamboo flute, synth & percussion on ‘Journey’s End’ + JS on guitars, mando cello & other percussion
